02E08 - The Woman in the Sand

Booth and Bones went to the desert outside Las Vegas to verify if an old, clobbered corpse is that of missing public prosecutor Mason Roberts, presumably murdered by the mob he investigated, as claimed by a dying call-girl. However circling vultures lead them also to a nearby, far fresher and younger female corpse, Billy Morgan. Her husband Don Morgan, who reported her missing fearing she left him after he lost his job, has a broken thumb, mob methods for a shark-loan for her breast-implants to start 'exotic dancing'; Billy's corpse has such extensive, partially defensive injuries incurred over a long period that she must have been bare-knuckle-boxing in illegal 'ultimate fighting'. Don says he thought she stopped boxing after losing her license a year earlier. Booth braves his cured gambling addiction (craps) to question mobster Lou Mackey in his casino, where he meets Frankie Daniels, a still-playing fellow Gulf war veteran. They find the boxing ring, covered in blood traces, and go undercover; after allowing FBI colleague Walt Sugarman to knock him down to preserve his cover, Seeley proves himself a smashing fighter as 'Tony the Tiger', but finds there is match-fixing. The Jeffersonian, where Hodgins finds the key to anger gentle Zach, finally finishes Billy's autopsy...
