Quantum Leap

Theorising that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Dr Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap Accelerator, and vanished. He awoke and found himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.

Sam leaps into the body of Marine Corps Captain Ron Miller who is in a Veterans Hospital having lost both of his legs in combat in Vietnam. His wife had met him in Tokyo when he was first evacuated from the war zone and it's not apparent why Sam is there. Al thinks it's to reconcile with his wife since history records that has several children. Sam wonders if he's there to help his hospital roommate, Sgt. Billy Johnson who is now a quadriplegic. He seems to have given up on life refusing to have anything to do with his loving girlfriend. Al knows that Billy will commit suicide by drowning himself in the pool so Sam sets out to ensure that it doesn't happen. Sam also becomes close to Kiki Wilson whose brother is MIA and volunteers at the hospital. Her cheery attitude helps all of those around her - and it's also clear that she has taken a particular interest in Captain Miller.
