Quantum Leap

Theorising that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Dr Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap Accelerator, and vanished. He awoke and found himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.

Sam leaps into the body of Nikos Stahatos, a Greek sailor working aboard a luxury yacht. Sam finds himself in the Mediteranean with one of the passengers, Vanessa Foster, just as the ship explodes. The two survivors couldn't be more different: a rough, working class sailor and the upper class débutante, born with a silver spoon in her mouth and constantly looking down at her inferior raft-mate. They eventually make it to land and begin to know and understand one another. The puzzle for Sam is to understand exactly why he is there. Al hasn't quite figured it out yet but everything Sam does seems to lengthen, rather than shorten, the amount of time it takes for them to be rescued. As their relationship continues to develop, Sam's begins to wonder if rescue is the object of the exercise.
